Update (A personal Protective Style Challenge)

(I swear I am going to update this blog more than I have been.)

So what has been going on with my hair?

I recently did a trim because my ends were jacked up with single strand knots everywhere! It wasn't a huge trim, I just snipped off the thin and raggedy ends. My hair/ends feels soo much better. I will talk about the trimming method I used in a later post. Right now I am in the middle of a personal protective style/low manipulation challenge. (I WILL go through with it this time -- I have promised myself that much.

The Details

Basically for three months (twelve weeks) I am going to keep my ends tucked away either in a protective style that is twist or braid based. What this means is that I will braid or twist my hair, put it into a protective style of some sort, and go on with my day. I might throw in some loose hair protective styles once in a while just to get used to working with my loose hair. Sometimes the loose hair is just too much...

I won't stray too far away from my normal routine other than the fact that my wash days will be different because of my wacky work schedule. I will continue with my usual weekly wash routine, but I will add a deep condition after every wash to help with the moisture retention and overall health of my hair. I have been doing the deep conditioning after every wash for at leas three weeks now and I can see an improvement in my hairs health.

Hopefully, within these three months I will gain about two inches of hair and reach my goal of APL hair that is stretched. *crosses fingers* If you guys would like to participate, you are welcome to! Please let me know the results! ^_^

How about you guys? Do you have any goals you want to achieve (hair wise or not) within the next few months? Share them!

Love,
J.

Sometimes it's TOO much!

(this is how I felt today trying to deal with my hair!)

As much as I would NOT like to make this blog completely about hair, this post is dedicated to it. Today I logged into my Fotki account for the first time in about oh...5 months. If you don't know what Fotki is, it is a free image hosting website that is big in the natural hair community. Most ladies, including me, post pics of hairstyles, hair growth, etc. It might seem a little vain, but for me, it helps ease the frustration with my hair and also helps me to see how I have progressed. It is also where I get most of my styling options from! I was attempting a "roll and tuck" (or french roll) type hairdo and lo 'n behold my hair would not hold up! Surprise, Surprise!

Today my daddy told me something along the lines of "You have a lot of hair in a small amount of space". And he is right. My hair is waay too thick. It's days like today when I hate my hair because it doesn't hold right or I can only get half of it done before I am too frustrated to continue on with the rest of it. Sometimes I seriously have to step back and breath, then come back at it. Today was just one of those days. I also realized what I am going to do with my hair...but I will have to see if it is feasible.

Anyway, I thought I would give you guys a little insight into what I have been dealing with. Do you guys ever feel this way about things(Hair or not)?

Love,
J.

Creative Endevour

I made a (minor) accomplishment today. I bought a SKETCH PAD!

Now for anyone who is close to me, they will know I like to make things. Crochet. Jewelry. Food. I should have been an art major -- except I can't draw! But that didn't stop me from making my first sketch of a necklace today. After I got home I went right to it, and since I am no artist, the whole process took about an hour and a half. Nevertheless, I am proud of myself. I had been wanting to buy a sketch book for a while...

I have to get some money to gather a few more materials and then I can complete the necklace. After that, I think I have an idea for a bracelet. And then earrings...maybe even an anklet. Hmmm...

It seems like being done with school has really opened my creative side. Who knows maybe this could turn into something!?!

Ch-ch-changes!

I know I keep talking about what I am going to do to my hair. That isn't, or rather, wasn't the point of this blog. I am trying to make it so it's an experience of my life with hair included.

I know there are too many people on this website and out on the Internet that blog about hair and such. And there is so much information out there about NATURAL HAIR and how to care for it. I am in no way someone to try and start a fad. I just wanna be me.

With that being said, I think I am going to change the direction of this blog a little to include personal thoughts, news, hair, crafts, and life in general. Over the next few days I am going to be redoing things a little and tweaking. I will also be posting and getting my name out there a lot more, such as: Post/links on Facebook, (maybe) get a bumper sticker, and other things.

Love,
J.

Update!

Hello!

Yes, it has been a while since I have posted here. I have been lurking around Curly Nikki and CollegeCurlies, but have neglected to post here. But, I can finally update now that I am not SO busy. 22 days until graduation! And I have some semi-exciting news for you guys, but that will be in a later post.

ON TO THE HAIR!
Anyway, with all the craziness of senior year going on for the past two months I haven't really had time to take care of my hair. For the past two weeks I have been wearing a a puff or just wearing a fro. I have been washing it and moisturizing it like always, but my protective styles just hasn't been what I have wanted them to be.

As I am typing this I am actually under the dryer deep conditioning with SheaMoisture's Deep Treatment Masque. My mom bought me some Shea Moisture products a while back and so far they are working for my hair. I will be sure to write a review later.

Styling wise: I need something simple and easy. I was thinking twists or a twist-n-curl. Hmm we shall see.

I just wanted to check in and say I AM STILL HERE! Be on the look out for a post filled with pictures on my hair and other happenings!

Happy EASTER!
J.
